These are not scores. They are sentences people were willing to put their trade next to, after the copies had been in the room for a season.
A useful note after modeling work is specific: a Thursday, a penalty clause, a photocopier, a bag-count. The sentences below come from engagements on this desk, shortened where a house asked not to be named. One of them is not glowing; we kept it because a director who was annoyed still changed what she sent to the bank.
They made us bring the cancelled bus tours into the same table as the walk-ins. I did not enjoy that morning. I did use the Thursday staffing number they left on the last page.
The board pack had three seasons drawn on one sheet. Our warehouse in the industrial zone finally stopped ordering as if every month were October.
I asked for a review of a file a Tbilisi visitor had left us. The letter was blunter than I wanted. Two formulas were doing theatre. We still use the occupancy sheet. We stopped sending the pretty summary to the bank.
Tamar’s charts survived being photocopied for the kitchen. That sounds small. The previous pack had colour that vanished to grey and a legend nobody could read at six in the morning.
The seasonal study was late by four days because we were late with the till tapes. They said so, once, without a speech. Easter staffing was still decided on the curve they drew, not on last year’s rumour.
Allotments before a summer that would not sit still
A boulevard hotel had already promised a tour operator two floors for July. The night audits showed walk-ins paying more than the allotment on fair-weather Fridays, and almost nothing on wet Tuesdays. The modeling engagement did not tell them to break a contract. It named the week they could still release a few rooms without a penalty, and the week they would be feeding breakfast to empty chairs. They released nine rooms. July was not famous. The loan payment cleared.
